Elga Salvador

WI-HER/ Senior Gender Advisor

Elga Salvador is the Senior Gender Advisor for the Latin America and Caribbean region at WI-HER. She provides technical and programmatic support to USAID’s  in Zika emergency response for eight countries in Latin America under USAID’s Applying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) Project. Elga has over 20 years of gender and development experience in Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. She has conducted research and led programs related to gender equality and human rights, social protection with gender perspective, gender-based violence prevention, reproductive and sexual health promotion, and integral sexual education. She specialized in the multisectorial and multidisciplinary approach to countering gender-based violence with the University of Oulu (Finland). Since 2009, Elga has lived in the Dominican Republic where she has worked as a consultant with both local and international organizations to promote the rights of women at the national and regional level. Elga also has experience working with governments, United Nations and other agencies. She has a postgraduate degree in economics from the Università di Udine (Italy) and a master degree in gender and development from the Centro de Estudios de Género del Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic).
