Demand for maternal and newborn health services are influenced by cultural practices that are important to identify and to develop education initiatives and respond appropriately to the cultural context of these populations, as a condition for reaching impact and sustainable results. Roland Van de Ven of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Luke Dausse of the USAID ASSIST Project presented their experiences in Tanzania and Mozambique of community health systems strengthening for prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
