MaNHEP Change Package for Improving Community Support Processes for Maternal and Newborn Health

In close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), Regional Health Bureaus (RHB), Zonal Health Departments (ZHD) and Woreda Health Offices (WorHO), the Maternal and Newborn Health in Ethiopia Partnership (MaNHEP) has worked for three-and-a-half years to implement a community care package for mothers and babies around the time of birth in 51 kebeles of Amhara and Oromia regions. This document represents a summary of the ideas and changes that have been shown to improve access to care at the community level. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the Community Maternal and Newborn Health (CMNH) Family Meeting Package, which provides details on what and how care should be provided to mothers and babies. The ideas and changes recommended in this Package are backed by data which shows improvements in pregnancy identification, antenatal care registration, CMNH family meeting
attendance, and postnatal care follow-up within 48 hours of birth.
