Quality Improvement in Intensive Care Medicine: Leveraging Teamwork to Improve and Optimize Care Delivery

Intensive care medicine is complex, quick-moving, and often requires the involvement of many separate actors working in concert to provide safe, quality care to patients in life-threatening or dangerous situations. Evidence-based practices may be well known, but compliance and adherence to best practices is not always executed in real-time, leading to unsafe outcomes and suboptimal patient care. Quality improvement can facilitate better intensive care outcomes by identifying areas of inefficiency in care delivery processes and leveraging teamwork to optimize care delivery.
