Use of 'knowledge cafes' in learning session to explore solutions to health system challenges

At the first PHFS learning session held in Mbeya Urban District in Tanzania, participants took part in a knowledge café where they formed six groups of five or more people with a facilitator in each group. A knowledge café is an interactive way to engage providers to share their critical knowledge from working in a clinic and caring for clients every day. Facilitators were each assigned to a table and asked to record discussions as the groups rotated to discuss six issues relating to the improvement of PMTCT care and RCH services. The conversational process of the knowledge café helped learning session facilitators and participants to think of possible changes to test to begin improvement work in their health facilities.
